James Shaw won afgelopen zondag de UCI wedstrijd Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. Hij stuurde ons een verslag door hoe hij de wedstrijd beleefde.
It was a really proud moment for me to win, it is still sinking in, I can't quite believe it. There was a break of about 5 men that went up the road very early. I decided not to go with this as we still have 125km still to go. I sat in and saved my energy for later on in the race. As we reached some of the later climbs in the race I decided to test the main group, just putting in some attacks to see how they reacted . After this I sat back into the bunch and assessed the race. At the 80km mark just after the feed zone the chasing group involving myself court the lead group and become one. At this point there was about 27 riders 47 secs up, we where not the lead group. At this point I realised I had timed my efforts fairly well for the day. Once we reached the finishing loop the lead group of 27 riders started attacking each other and trying to form groups off the front to go for the win. Luckily I managed to get myself into the winning break of 5 riders with 15 km to go, however I noticed it seemed to be me doing the majority of the work. At this moment I looked into the wind noted the cross wind and went for it, I had one chance to win and this was it! I got my head down and went for it. I was killing myself to stay away, I could see the group chasing me I knew it wasn't going to be easy. As I passed the 1km to go banner I noticed I had a good gap that I could maintain. I turned the final corner into the finishing straight and it what hat moment I realised what I had done. I would just like to say a huge that's to our team manger John Barcley and the guys at Haribo beacon cycling team for helping me out. Also all the sponsors who have provide me with kit because without them I would not be able to do what I enjoy.
