De Australier Jamie Coles won zaterdag de wedstrijd voor junioren in Geel-Kievermont. In een sprint met Jarne Van Dyck was de Jamie de snelste. Stan Van Grieken vervolledigde het podium. Het is Jamie zijn eerste zege in ons land. De renner van Cannibal B Victorious verblijft tot september in ons land.
Jamie Coles: "My plan at the start of the day was to just sit in and save myself for the backend of the race, after 1 lap I got bored and decided to attack and brought a couple boys along with me. Unfortunately my friend Sam Dara crashed out of the break which was a huge loss to have so early on in the race. Just waited up for the other boys and kept rolling, we hit a bit of a lull stage where we weren’t really riding that fast until we heard a time check of 4 bridging the gap to us. We picked up the pace and slowly got rid of some other riders until there was 3 of us. We then kept riding together until one of them put in an attack 3 laps to go and distanced the Tormans rider. We were riding hard to keep him away but he was just staying close behind. The other rider kept sending attacks on me to try drop me but at that stage I could sense that we wasn’t confident in sprinting against me so all I had to do was bring it to a sprint between us. In the closing kilometres the tormans rider was closing in on us and was getting really close, I was on the front for a sprint and saw him pretty close behind so I decided to go about 250 out and try hold them off, somehow it worked that was job done."
