Australiër Brendon Meney wint in Deinze

De Australiër Brendon Meney won in ons land zijn eerste wegwedstrijd van het seizoen. Brendon is met zijn ploeg tot 27 augustus in België. Nadien reist hij door Girona voor een training van 3 weken om nadien deel te nemen aan UWCT amateur world championships. Brendon behaalde in Australië al 2 overwinningen in het tijdrijden. Vandaag was hij de sterkste in Deinze en stuurde ons volgend verslag:

"Today's race was perfect weather. I felt really good and the GDT Flanders Racing Team dominated from the word go. Robert Power, Ashley Mackay and I were in a break away for the first 3 laps with 2 others. Then Jai Hindley was in the second breakaway while Robert and I rested. Luke Vitlęr excelled in chasing down threatening breaks. Unfortunately Drew Popperwell punctured in the 4th lap. With 6 laps to got Robert, Luke, Jai and I were in a group that had shrunk to about 15 riders. Luke and I were out for a bit with 2 others, but then it got brought back. With 3 to go I hit it and got a gap. It was small at first but no one was chasing and anyone that tried were brought back by my team mates. The 3 laps were hard but I pushed through, saving a bit of energy for the last lap where I gave it everything. Coming into the last lap also my seat clamp came loose and after the race when I got off my bike my seat came completely off. Jai Hindley punctured just under 1km from the finish, Luke and Robert contested the sprint in the chasing group, but not being pure sprinters got rolled on the line. Ashley came 4th in the second bunch sprint."
