Eerste buitenlandse zege voor Adam Stenson in Heestert

Adam Stenson won gisteren de nieuwelingenwedstrijd in Heestert. Het is voor de Ierse renner zijn eerste zege op buitenlandse bodem.

"I started the race with 112 other very fit and talented riders from a number of diffrent countries. The race started off flat out from the gun. My irish team mates and i missed the early move so we set out to get a rider in it. The peloton soon bridged the gap and i along with my team mates took turns attacking the peloton and getting into breakaways. On lap 4 i rolled off the front and was away for a lap on my own. On this lap i won the prime. A group of about 10 including 2 of my teammates bridged the gap to me. We were soon caught as there was no one working in the break. The American team were strong and so was another rider so we watched them all day. There was a lot of attacking on lap 6 so there was a bit of a lul on lap 7. I used thid to my advantage and rolled of the front with an american rider. We worked well together and pulled out a bit of a gap quickly. I knew he wasnt as strong as me so i stayed with him and let him take his turns so i wouldnt br wasting energy. It looked like we would be caught with a lap to go but my teammate Ronan Toumey bridged the gap and did a massive turn and we pulled out the gap again. With two km to go i knew it would be my day and i was confident in my sprinting ability to take the american. I rounded the last turn and went flat out with about 200m to go. I crossed the line and was overwhelmmed and a bit shocked that i had just won a race in Belgium. It is my first international win. I have to say a big thank you to the FBD talent team programme and Martin o Louglin for giving Irish riders like me the opportunity to come and race with the best in the world.
