In Schoonderbuken (Scherpenheuvel) werd gisteren de laatste rit verreden van de Vermarc driedaagse voor junioren. In een sprint met 5 was de Australische renner van Acog Tormans, Declan Pritchard.
Winnaar uit Australië, Declan Pritchard: "Course was super sketchy with heaps of bumps and potholes as well as tight corners that were hard to navigate as I had not come across them before back home but I made sure to start towards the front although that didn’t last long. Got shuffled back and remained mid pack for a bit before moving back to the front since it was really sketchy in the middle with the course and I stayed up there for a bit. In the last 2 laps two got up the road to bridge to the break so I bridged across since no one was working in the peloton but those two weren’t pulling turns hard enough so I left them behind and bridged to the break where we worked for a lap and a half before one other guy bridged to us. I tried a few attacks before the sprint since they said they were cooked but none of them worked so had to sit in for the sprint. Then it was about a 30 second effort to the line as someone went early but I waited a bit and came around them to get the win. Also, the team was super supportive the whole day and made sure I was 100% ready for the race and had everything I needed with nutrition and warm up and were very generous with their time for me. Then during the race my teammates were super active and animated the race getting in breakaways and being in every move up the road while helping me navigate the bunch and letting me know what was going on."
Eindwinnaar René Messely: " Het was een mooi parkour maar in mijn ogen niet lastig genoeg om echt een groot verschil bij elkaar te rijden. Ik hield de mannen die op 1min20 stonden goed in het oog en natuurlijk ook mijn vriend Xibe Bral. Halfweg koers rijd er een groepje van 4 weg met xibe Bral en daar ook nog 2 ploegmaats van hem. Ik reed zelf het gat volledig toe want ik kreeg heel de koers van niemand ondersteuning. Met nog 3 ronden te gaan deed Xibe nog een poging en ik zat net ingesloten. Ik reed erachteraan en reed weer zelfstandig het gat toe. Ik voelde me top vandaag en voelde mijn benen eigenlijk niet. De laatste ronde volgde ik gewoon en in de sprint liet ik het lopen. Ik ben trots op mijn prestatie en ook op de manier waarop ik koerste de afgelopen dagen."
